History of the Old Mids Hockey Club

Stranger than fiction! The Old Mid Whitgiftian Hockey Club was set up in 1957, as a club for the old boys of Trinity School, Croydon, formerly known as Whitgift Middle School. (Hence the curious name.) The Club is a part of the Old Mid Whitgiftian Association (OMWA), a sports and social association with clubs for hockey, cricket, rugby, water polo, squash and badminton and golf, as well as a very active amateur dramatic section, the Mitre Players.

Forty nine years on, the Old Mids is an active club with five senior teams a mini section and an embryonic colts team, ("The Mitres".) In 1997, an Old Mids Mixed team won the National knock-out tournament, while in 1998 we won the Surrey Cup.

In 2005 we won the Surrey Open League and were promoted back into the Surrey/Hants League. In the same year, we also won the Surrey Cup for the second time, and also the HA Trophy.

All five senior teams play in Leagues, the 1st XI and 2nd XI in Surrey Div 1, while the 3rd, 4th and 5th are in the Surrey Open League.
